In December of 1970 Mr. Paul Ripley had an idea to help the youth of Ripley, Butler and Oregon counties. With the help of others the idea manifested in the opening of the Current River Area Vocational School in September 1972. Since that time thousands of youth in Doniphan and surrounding communities have had the opportunity to learn lifelong skills that have benefited not only their families but their home communities as well. For over 40 years, the career center has given an economic advantage to students trained in our communities through the acquisition of needed industry skills.
The Current River Career Center stands today as a facility to promote lifelong learning among students from Doniphan, Naylor, Neelyville and Couch. We currently offer seven skilled technical science programs along with Agriculture and Business education classes. Our classes are offered in 3-hour AM and PM blocks. All students have the opportunity to gain real world skills that will benefit them in the workplace and in further education.
